From A to the Z

© Elisabeth Rancourt, 2011

Tonight, was a great night as I went out and took pictures of my friend and roommate Zoë. What was supposed to be a dark and cold evening turned out to be a fun and artificially lighted night. Plus, Zoë's natural beauty and surprising ease to pose helped me to develop the idea of playing around with movements and transparencies.

Rose-Anna Fauchon, 19
Antonio Cayouette, 26

Inspired by the 'Vintage Photos' from the Sartorialist, I decided to pay tribute to my great grandparents, at the age 0f 19 and 26, back in 1923. They looked great, they were in love and they now have a family lake named after them.

Lizzy & the Orca

© Elisabeth Rancourt & Lysanne Picard, 2011

Lizzy & the Orca stands for Lysanne Picard and Sébastien Ménard, a folk pop Montréal based duet with a sweet melody and a colorful style, a must see (or hear) this spring, as it keeps on raining. Chez Baptiste on Masson tomorrow evening.

I took this photo as I needed a few shots for an exhibition, but this one seemed to be prefect to reflect the chemistry between the two lovers. All credits go to Lysanne for doodling over in cyan and magenta.

Sara & Mira

© Elisabeth Rancourt, 2011

Inspired by the twin sisters and musicians Tegan&Sara, I took a picture of my good friend Mira and her little sister last week as they were visiting.

HENRIKA & JEFF

© Elisabeth Rancourt, 2011

Mini sneak-peak on the first "brother + sister" photo-shoot i recently did with Henrika and Jeff (one out of many more to come; i love the thematic).

Photo taken off Ste-Catherine St. (Lacoste boutique under construction). I particularly like the contrast and the simplicity found in a symbol (?) and the complexity of the graffiti revealed at a very few spots, creating a strong visual impact through its monochrome and uniformity.

Video installation created by Baillat, Cardell & Fils featured in Place des Arts. I can't hold myself from stopping and admiring each time i pass by.... beautiful work on irregular sized divided screens in ongoing communication.

PROCRASTINATION

It's been way too long since I've posted something on this blog, only due to a certain lack of discipline, aka procrastination, not due to a lack of ideas or inspirations... Here's a little pitch to motivate me...

Audrey Kawasaki

Analogie d'images anatomiques.

This week, I had the pleasure to get to frame one of Audrey Kawasaki's work; inspiring at different levels such as the drawing strokes, de minimalist color scheme and the wooden surface. Analogy of anatomic images.

This week-end was glorious; from thrift shopping to finding great finds into little shops off St-Joseph st. in Quebec city. Today's keywords: colors and multiplicity, circles and spreads. Accompanied by my sis and ideal partner: Pascale Rancourt

Sylvain Dumais

Tonight: short conference held nowhere else than the Apple Store, presented by Sylvain Dumais, photographer and creative director. He has broken the ice here in Canada in terms of being the first winner of ADC Young Guns (Art Director's Club) to talk into one of our Apple stores. There's always a first to everything and i am glad I was a witness to it.

I ♥ Triangles

Just a little reminder from Myself to Myself. I love triangles and prisms, I love wood, I love structure. I love puzzled like shapes.

Massive Art @ Art souterrain

As Nuit Blanche occured in Montreal, I took time to experience Art souterrain (Underground Art) from a different point of view, discovering installations, videos and sounds, photographs and performances shining under the artificial light of Montreal's hidden world. One of my favorites was the Massive Art silkscreen workshop, where Night inspired artworks were presented. It really made me want to try this technique again...

What a beautiful day! And what an awesome afternoon bringing creatives souls together to draw, inspired by the game created by the collaboration of Lysanne & Manel. Congrats ladies, can't wait to see the final product!

Looking at my window

© Elisabeth Rancourt, 2011

As i am into old trips' photos , this one is from my visit at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, Alberta. The fake outside seen from inside creates a very interesting and intriguing atmosphere, just the way i like it.

Me, Myself & Rusko

Listening to some of Rusko's dubstep, I remembered that I particularly liked the cover of his last record (OMG!) and that brought me to work with a photo that I took while in Saskatchewan last summer. If life was a song, really good sounds would come out of that part of my life.

RO-XA-NA sous zéro

© Elisabeth Rancourt, 2011

Since these days have been insanely cold (-30C), i couldn't help but to use Roxana's woolen sweater, scarf and hat as props in my concept, a few days before she left on a big jet plane, direction: Europe.

Look At Your Feet//

© Elisabeth Rancourt, 2011

Whenever I walk places, I can't help but to look at my feet when they find a common ground to my love for light and structure, in consequence of which I come close to fall way too often.

Open Form Architecture

© Elisabeth Rancourt, 2010

As I ran into my friend Darrel the other day, he handed me his 'interactive business card' (fold it yourself and have fun type of deal). So this morning, as I procrastinated a bit from another project on the go, I had fun playing cards and origami. Thanx Open Form.

Check them out / Jetez un coup d'oeil:

This last post about Fleet Foxes reminded me that I took a picture of a shiny birdy sitting quietly on one of my doodles. Holidays now behind, I thought it would be great to keep up with the glitters...

I embraced Josianne's last days as a blondie capturing the whole through an artistic, structured and mysterious environment.

Artificial face to face with nature.
In my opinion, there's something about this picture that makes it special...assorted outfit and decor? absence of visual contact with the model? "Interior-Exterior" effect enhanced by the tinted whites? I don't know...

Coquine, mesquine, adorable...

The stripes of her shirt and the ancient mechanism of her watch totally got me. How could I not put a pirate's hat on her head?! Naughty and nice, as much as she's adorable...
